Calgary Comic Expo, Free Comic Book Day, & TCAF
Last weekend was our last stop in our all-over-the-map tour with "The Anthology Project" for the summer. What a whirlwind! We have seen such an outpouring of enthusiasm surrounding our first volume, and for that we have to say thank you, thank you, thank you! To experience such a warm reception at every city we have been to means so much to us, and so we have to extend our sincerest thanks to new friends and old!
The weekends after C2E2 have been spent in the mother land with our first stop in Calgary, which is the home town of several Anthology Project artists. The Calgary Comic Expo has grown considerably since last year, and they've opened up the space to accommodate more booths. We love this convention, not just because it's so close to home for us, but because the atmosphere of this particular convention just buzzes. As a personal anecdote I had a good long chat with a young gentleman of maybe 8 or 9 who had just read through the entire series of "Bone" volumes. I wasn't too much older than him when I discovered "Bone" and it was really cool to see that this story is inspiring the next generation of cartoonists too.
The following weekend was a bit quieter, with Happy Harbor Comics' Free Comic Book Day, and the Royal Bison Craft Fair. Meeting local comic artists and hanging out drawing for charity was a great way to unwind after all of our travels, but it was just a short break before we flew to Toronto for TCAF. What a remarkable festival that was! We had never been to TCAF before, but it lived up to all of our lofty expectations as the Holy Grail for comic creators. Plus Toronto is the home to many of The Anthology Project artists, so just like Calgary, there was a family reunion vibe to this show.
If you missed us at TCAF, not to worry, we'll be back in Toronto for Fan Expo which runs from August 27-29. We've also added one more tour date to the calendar sort of last minute, in Vancouver. If you're in the area, mark down May 30th on your calendar and come to Heritage Hall for the Vancouver Comic Convention. And if we missed your town, don't panic. The book is still available at our online store, or by visiting any of these fine comic retailers. Now I guess we'd better get busy making book two! Stay tuned for that!
A Busy Last Few Weeks
The Anthology Project has officially been available for three weeks now, and all of them have been pretty eventful. First of all, a huge thanks to everyone that came out to our release party in Calgary. There was no way for us to gauge how the book would be received by it's audience until people finally had a chance to hold it and read our stories, so it was a really gratifying experience to have so many people come out and show their support. There really couldn't have been a better way to celebrate the culmination of our collective efforts.
MoCCA and C2E2 followed close on the heels of our release - talk about a great way to kick off the promotion of our book. From meeting artists whose work we admire to young kids at their first convention and everyone in between, we spent two weekends doing our best to show people what we've been brewing for the past year. From the book's inception we set out to create an experience that people would genuinely enjoy, so to have people make a point of coming back after reading the book just to tell us they loved it was really encouraging. Both conventions were humbling and inspiring, but most of all... they were really fun! We can't wait to spend more time in Chicago and New York.
Next up is Calgary Comic Expo, followed by the Royal Bison Craft & Arts fair and TCAF. If you're in the area, come on out! If the last few weeks have been any sort of indicator, these conventions will be a blast. If you've already picked up a book, bring it out so that we can personalize it for you. Also it's cool if you just want to stop by to shoot the breeze, feel the texture of the book cover, or bring us donuts.
Volume 1
A little over a year later and The Anthology Project is now complete. All of the artists who contributed to this first volume did such an amazing job and we are so proud of every single one of the comics in this book. This anthology wouldn't be where it is today without these guys and girls!
If you've been to this site before, you'll notice a few changes, namely that our shop is now open. We are currently taking pre-orders for The Anthology Project, so if you'd like a copy head over to our shop!
